Three people died and two others were rescued Saturday after their snowmobiles fell through the ice on New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee.

The incidents occurred during a popular ice fishing derby on the lake.

According to an article on UnionLeader.com, a 15-year old boy from Mamaroneck, New York, was killed when his snowmobile fell through the ice. His father, 48, was riding on a separate snowmobile that also fell in. But he was rescued and treated for hypothermia.

In a separate incident, three other snowmobilers from Westborough, Massachusetts ran off an ice shelf into open water, which may have been obscured by light ice and snowfall. Two of those men died while a third was rescued and is expected to survive.
