search and rescueIt’s always good to learn from your mistakes. But when it comes to getting lost, frozen or hurt in the woods, it’s best to learn from the mistakes of others.

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise recently published the New York Department of Environmental Conservation’s search and rescue report for the Adirondack region from the past winter. In it are hikers becoming stranded when an ice bridge collapses, an ice climber suffering a 70-foot fall, and plenty of hikers getting hurt and lost. Read it and keep their experiences in mind when you venture into the wild.
