Midstate Trail MapThink about long-distance hiking trails in New England, and the Appalachian Trail and Vermont’s Long Trail immediately come to mind. But there are many other great lengthy trails in the Northeast, and among them is the often overlooked Midstate Trail in central Massachusetts.

Located 45 miles west of Boston, this scenic trail extends 95 miles across the hills of central Massachusetts, traveling from the Rhode Island border to the New Hampshire border, where it connects with the Wapack Trail.

An article on the site FarNorthEndurance.com earlier this year profiled a roughly 40-mile section of the trail. You can also learn more about the trail at MidstateTrail.org.
