Two islands in the Connecticut River and a historic nearby farm in Monroe, New Hampshire, will be permanently conserved thanks to an agreement reached between landowners and the Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust.

According to an article on UnionLeader.com, North and South islands, which measure 2.6 and 2 acres, respectively, will now be managed by the Vermont River Conservancy. The conservancy reportedly plans to build a campsite this summer on South Island for the Connecticut River Paddlers Trail.

The ACT says the islands are an important habitat for aquatic birds, while South Island is known to be home to the rare Jessup’s milkvetch, a type of plant.
