alligatorPolice say an alligator roughly 7 feet long was reportedly spotted in a western Pennsylvania river last week.

According to an article on CTPost.com, two people reported seeing the reptile near a boat launch on the Monongahela River in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, last Tuesday. Police then received several more reports from people who said they’d seen an alligator in the river in recent weeks.

Police say it’s possible the animal hitched a ride on a barge from down south or was an exotic pet released by its owner. Experts say while the animal couldn’t live in the river year-round, it could survive in the cold water for an extended period of time.
