Maine Island Trail videoWant to know why you should paddle the Maine Island Trail this summer? Check out the following video for your answer.

The Maine Island Trail is a 375-mile recreational waterway running along the entire coast of Maine. It connects over 200 island and mainland sites open for day visits or overnight camping while traversing a variety of natural settings from sandy beaches and quiet bays to saltwater rivers and rocky shores.

The video from Vimeo user Michael Detviler features scenes from a 3-day paddling trip he and some friends took last fall on a section of the Maine Island Trail featuring islands off the coast of Stonington, Maine. The video is a good look at what it’s like to paddle the trail as it weaves in and out of Maine’s jagged coastline and around its many islands. Exploring wooded islands, camping on beaches and eating breakfasts on rocks looking out over the ocean is not a bad way to spend a few days.
