A Massachusetts couple, along with their dog, are currently hiking across New York as they attempt to thru-hike the North Country Trail.

The trail begins along the New York-Vermont border (although there’s a current proposal to extend it into Vermont to the Appalachian Trail) and winds 4,600 miles to the center of North Dakota. Along the way it crosses through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

EveningTribune.com recently ran a profile on the couple – Rick Carbonell and Christine Herpfer of Great Barrington, Massachusetts – as they hiked New York’s Finger Lakes Trail. The Finger Lakes Trail, which winds across New York and is nearly 1,000 miles long, is part of the North Country Trail.
