New York’s Saranac Lake has won the bid to host the 2017 World Snowshoe Championship.

A delegation of snowshoe competitors and village officials were in Italy this past weekend presenting their plan for hosting the championship to members of the World Snowshoe Federation, according to an article on PressRepublican.com

The delegation succeeded in their attempt. The event is tentatively scheduled for February 2017. Roughly 500 of the world’s best snowshoe racers are expected to compete.

This will mark the first time the World Snowshoe Championship has been held in the United States.
