Officials protecting peregrine falcon nesting sites have closed cliffs and hiking areas to the public in Vermont and Maine.

At Maine’s Acadia National Park, officials have closed The Precipice, Jordan Cliffs and Valley Cove areas.They aren’t expected to open again until late July or early August.

In Vermont, officials have closed two cliffs in the Green Mountain National Forest. The Forest Service closes the Rattlesnake Cliff area in Salisbury and the Mount Horrid and Great Cliff area in Rochester each year from March 15 through August 1 to protect falcons.
