Rescue crews in New Hampshire were kept busy on Sunday as they rescued three separate hikers in the White Mountains.
Warm temperatures attracted many hikers to the mountains over the weekend, but dangerously icy trail conditions are still found in many places. All three rescued hikers suffered leg injuries.
Shortly after noon, Lisa Prefontaine, 41, of Abington, Massachusetts, slipped and fell while descending from the Lonesome Lake hut on Cannon Mountain with family members. She suffered a leg injury that prevented her from walking. A passerby reportedly stopped and called 911. Rescue crews were able to carry her off the mountain at 3:20 p.m.
Officials said another hiker, Anny Bedard, 50, of Boston, suffered a fractured leg while descending Crampton’s Webster Cliff Trail around 12:30 p.m on Sunday. Rescue efforts were hampered by limited cell service, but a passerby was able to eventually report the injury. Bedard was carried out of the forest by rescue crews around 7:10 p.m.
At roughly 4 p.m. Sunday, Jinglei Mei, 39, of Newton, Massachusetts, was hiking Belknap Mountain in Gilford when she slipped and injured her ankle. She wasn’t able to bear weight on it, and she was carried down the mountain by rescue crews.
