Officials with the New York Department of Environmental Conservation are warning hikers that forest rangers will turn cars away from the popular Adirondack Loj Trailhead parking lot when the lot is full this autumn.
The parking lot is popular among hikers who want to access the High Peaks. Officials are concerned a shortage of available parking during busy autumn weekends could cause traffic problems.
In a release, DEC officials said that due to expected high use on weekends through Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving Day Weekend, forest rangers will turn away motor vehicles when the lot is full.
DEC officials have identified a dozen nearby hikes that provide a similar experience as hiking the High Peaks that they say have amazing scenic views of the autumn foliage, mountains and waters of the Adirondacks. Check out the hikes here.
