Maine Game Wardens arrested six hunters after they shot and killed 87 snowshoe hares – 67 more than the legal limit – on a Maine island on Saturday.

Working on a tip, the team of game wardens, Maine marine patrol officers and U.S. Fish and Wildlife agents reportedly closed in on the hunting group on Great Duck Island.

The hunters – five from Massachusetts and one from Maine – were found to be 67 snowshoe hares over their daily bag limit. In total, the group of six had killed 87 hares during their day of hunting. One individual was also summonsed for hunting without a license.
