As the calendar turns to September, the weather on Mount Washington is abruptly turning winterlike with freezing temperatures and near-hurricane force winds.

According to the Mount Washington Observatory, a cold front is moving across New Hampshire’s White Mountains today, ushering in below freezing temperatures to begin the popular Labor Day Weekend.

High summits are expected to be shrouded in clouds into Saturday, and any rain this evening could potentially mix with snow.

Winter conditions will be present above treeline tonight with strong winds, fog and freezing temperatures.

On Friday, temperatures will struggle to get higher than the 20s and near-hurricane force winds will keep wind chills in the single digits.

Temperatures in the region are expected to get back into the 40s on Saturday.
