A Hopkinton, New Hampshire mountain biker is recovering after being shot by a hunter last week.

According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, the 27-year-old woman was riding her mountain bike in Elm Brook Park in Hopkinton on Tuesday, November 21 when she was struck by bullet fragments.

At the time, she was traveling east on Hall Road in an area of the park that is heavily wooded. After coming to an area of the road that is fairly open, she heard a single gunshot and soon realized she had been struck.

The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, and she was treated and released at Concord Hospital.

Police officers responded to the scene of the shooting and questioned a 34-year-old suspect, also from Hopkinton. Officers said they believe the hunter was shooting at a deer and failed to see the mountain biker. An investigation is ongoing.
