Thunder_holeThe viewing area at Thunder Hole – one of the most popular sites in Maine’s Acadia National Park – will be closed for nearly two months this spring.

According to an article on MDIslander.com, the stairs and viewing platform at Thunder Hole – a rock formation named for the booming sound it makes when slammed by the ocean tide – are in serious need of repair. Officials plan to close the area around April 1 and hope to reopen it around May 22, just before Memorial Day Weekend.
