Baxter State Park officials have outlined plans for a phased reopening of the Maine park over the next few weeks.

Beginning next week, on June 15, park officials will open Togue Pond and Matagamon gates from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily for vehicle access on the park’s Tote Road.

Currently, travel above treeline in the park is prohibited. That is typical for this time of year, as officials try to protect sensitive alpine plants during the spring.

Trails above treeline, including those on Katahdin and Traveler, are tentatively set to reopen on July 1.

Also beginning July 1, park officials plan to open for most camping opportunities.

However, officials say bunkhouses will not be available during 2020.
