New York State Police say they found the body of missing hiker Alex Stevens this morning near Wallface Mountain in the Adirondacks.

Stevens, 28, of Hopewell, New Jersey was last seen on September 2.

Police said his body was found near Wallface Pond. An autopsy is expected to be completed tomorrow.

Stevens was reported missing on Sunday, September 10, when a family member reported him overdue from a hike into the southern High Peaks Wilderness in the town of Newcomb, Essex County. Police said people who spoke to Stevens near the trailhead on September 2 said he seemed unprepared for a long hike. He was reportedly wearing open-toed sandals and carrying a small backpack. He was also reportedly starting unusually late in the day.

Agencies involved with the search efforts include the New York State Police, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Forest Rangers, the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Search and Rescue of the Northern Adirondacks (SARNAK), Stowe Mountain Rescue, the Adirondack Amateur Radio Association, Newcomb Fire Department, the Town of Newcomb, and Newcomb Central School. Several other volunteers have also been on scene assisting with the search efforts.
