A Coast Guard rescue boat crew from Station Cape Cod Canal rescued two kayakers, a 12-year-old-boy and his adult relative, who began drifting out to sea on Friday, June 30, near East Sandwich Beach.

The mother of the boy called 911 from shore at around 6 p.m. to notify the authorities. The call was then routed to Station Cape Cod Canal, which launched a 45-foot rescue boat.

The crew quickly arrived on scene and located the two drifting kayaks, which were approximately 400-yards from shore. The crew pulled both kayakers and their kayaks aboard the rescue boat and brought them back to the station where emergency medical services personnel evaluated them.

No injuries were reported.
