A fire broke out on the summit of New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock Thursday, and firefighters say it is lucky the fire wasn’t much worse, according to an article on SentinelSource.com.

Jaffrey, New Hampshire Fire Chief David M. Chamberlain said the fire was roughly 40 feet in diameter and was extinguished after a state helicopter dropped 15 buckets of water on it.

Chamberlain said he didn’t know the definitive cause of the fire, but it was probably the result of careless disposal of smoking materials.
