Officials are trying to confirm whether a great white shark is currently off the coast of Maine.
A charter fishing boat contacted the Wells, Maine police department on Saturday to report they’d seen a great white shark 1.2 miles from Moody Beach. Police contacted the local harbormaster and Coast Guard, but have yet to be able to confirm that a great white shark is indeed in the area.
If the sighting was accurate, officials say it would be unusual for a great white shark given the time of year and its proximity to the beach.
