Officials at New Hampshire’s Mount Washington Observatory are warning that a wind storm is expected to create extremely dangerous conditions in the White Mountains today.

Calling it “one of the most powerful wind storms of this decade,” officials said dangerous conditions will be present above treeline.

The forecast for the higher summits includes wind gusts of up to 165 miles per hour.

At 6 a.m. today, officials said winds had already hit 144 miles per hour.

Temperatures are also expected to be extremely cold. Officials say the wind chill could drop to 60 below zero Fahrenheit during the day, and 85 below overnight.

While the storm peaks Monday, strong winds and cold temperatures are expected to continue through Tuesday.
