Huntington Ravine TrailA hiker had to be rescued on the east side of New Hampshire’s Mount Washington on Saturday after she broke her leg.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials received a call at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday reporting that a hiker had broken her lower leg while on Mount Washington’s Huntington Ravine Trail.

Kerry Roberts, 45, of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, broke her leg while hiking with Boy Scout Troop 35 out of Rhode Island when she was injured.

Appalachian Mountain Club personnel were the first to reach the scene and they placed Roberts in a litter to be carried down the trail by volunteers.

A Fish and Game conservation officer rode an all terrain vehicle up the Sherburne Ski Trail and put Roberts on the machine for a quicker and more direct route down the mountain to a waiting Gorham Ambulance. A little after 4 p.m., Roberts was placed in the ambulance and taken to Memorial Hospital in Conway for treatment of her injury.
