If you’ve ever skied or snowboarded at Vermont’s Sugarbush Resort, you’ve probably noticed that Sugarbush’s two peaks each have a very different atmosphere than the other. But you might not know that’s because each started as a separate ski resort decades ago.
Today’s Burlington Free Press has a profile of Sugarbush and the different origins of each of its mountains.
Sugarbush, located in Warren, Vermont, has nearly 500 skiable acres on 111 trails spread over two mountains. The base area at Lincoln Peak feels like a 19th-century Vermont village, with buildings that look like barns and farmhouses. But the other mountain, Mount Ellen, has a rugged feel that includes its 1960s ski lodge. The differences date back to their separate beginnings more than a half century ago.
