Rescue crews carried a hiker to safety last week after she suffered a leg injury near Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

Karen Hannan, 56, of Lowell, Massachusetts, was descending the Hi-Cannon Trail in Lincoln on Wednesday when she suffered a lower-leg injury and could not continue walking.

Rescue crews from Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue and the Appalachian Mountain Club responded to the scene, reaching Hannan at 4 p.m. She was roughly a half mile from the Lafayette Campground.

Rescuers placed Hannon in a rescue basket and carried her to the trailhead where an ambulance was waiting.
