The legendary Thunderbolt Ski Race on Mount Greylock, Massachusetts, will celebrate its 80th anniversary on February 28. And, for a race that has had to be cancelled in previous years due to lack of snow, this year’s conditions should be ideal.

This is a race where contestants must earn their turns. Skiers are challenged to hike 1.3 miles up the snowy mountain before descending the Thunderbolt Ski Trail.

According to an article on BerkshireEagle.com, Greylock has more than a foot of snow, and race organizers expect cold temperatures to maintain a nice snowpack until the race.
