Maine wardens used a float plane to rescue a hiker on a remote section of the Appalachian Trail on Friday.

According to the Maine Wardens Service, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call shortly after noon on Friday from the hiker, Devin Kaufman, 25, of Fairfield, Maine.

From the call, wardens determined the hiker was along the Appalachian Trail near the southeast edge of remote Rainbow Lake.

A pilot flying a warden service aircraft flew two game wardens to the shore of Rainbow Lake, where they found the hiker ill and weak.

The hiker was then flown to Greenville and then taken to a nearby hospital. There was no information on his condition.
