You can forget about that trip to Maine’s Baxter State Park and Katahdin anytime soon.

Maine’s Baxter State Park will remain closed to camping, motor vehicle access and travel above treeline until further notice, with a target opening date of July 1.

This week, park officials released a statement saying that due to the coronavirus pandemic, they would keep the park closed for the time being.

The park will remain open for walk-in day use below treeline. But all Katahdin and Traveler trails are closed at their trailheads.

Togue Pond and Matagamon gates will remain closed to motor vehicles.

All camping and day use parking reservations affected by the closure are cancelled, and park staff will contact those impacted to transfer or refund reservations.

Park officials said any locals who still intend to visit the park should follow CDC guidelines and practice physical distancing.
