A new hiking trail that will connect to a popular trail network and provide scenic views of Mount Monadnock, Haystack and Mount Snow is being planned for Dummerston, Vermont.
The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board recently awarded a $116,000 grant to the Putney Mountain Association for it’s Missing Links Project.
According to an article on Reformer.com, the project will create 6 to 8 miles of new trail from Prospect Hill in Dummerston to the Putney-Dummerston town line, where it will connect to the trail network on Putney Mountain and north along the Windmill Ridgeline.
Officials with the Putney Mountain Association say the goal of the project is to fill in gaps in an existing 45-mile trail, thereby completing the entire route from Grafton to Brattleboro.
The new trail will offer views of New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock to the east and Vermont’s Haystack and Mount Snow to the west. It passes through an old sugar bush and a 175-year-old hemlock forest.
