A man in Troy, New York was bruised and required several stitches under his right eye after being attacked by a rabid deer on Tuesday.

According to an article on CBS6Albany.com, the man was taking out his trash when he saw a buck in his yard. The buck approached him and then attacked him.

The man used old couch cushions to fend off the attack and a neighbor helped him get away from the deer.

The deer was later found dead. It had apparently become stuck in a nearby fence.

The deer was removed by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, and tests later showed it had rabies.
