New York officials say they’re planning to temporarily shut off the powerful waters of Niagara Falls.

According to an article on BuffaloNews.com, officials with the New York State Parks System say they want to shut off the American side of the falls sometime in the next two to three years to replace two 115-year-old stone arch bridges that provide access to Goat Island.

The falls last went dry in 1969 to allow researchers to study the effects of erosion and the buildup of rock at the base of the falls.
