The rest of America is about to learn what most New Englanders already know: That northern Maine is one of the best places in the country.
Travel guide publisher Lonely Planet has released its Top 10 List of U.S. travel destinations for 2013, and on the list alongside California’s eastern Sierras and Montana’s Glacier National Park is northern Maine.
Describing the area as natural and wild, the Lonely Planet write-up praises such places as Mount Katahdin and Moosehead Lake, and says the area has tons of recreational opportunities, such as whitewater rafting and epic hiking.
