On Sunday, New York forest rangers rescued a hiker who was injured after falling more than 40 feet at Minnewaska State Park Preserve.

According to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, the hiker called 911 at 3 p.m. He reportedly slipped and fell roughly 45 feet into a crevasse near Gertrude’s Nose.

Rangers responded, along with State Park Police, Ulster County Sheriffs, State Troopers, Mohonk Preserve Rangers, and local fire and ambulance services. Rescuers were able to pull the 55-year-old man from Long Island out of the crevasse.

The hiker was then flown from the scene by a state police helicopter to a waiting ambulance, which took him to a hospital in Poughkeepsie where he is recovering from his injuries.
