New York officials say a man who said he was attacked by a black bear in Hague, New York on Monday made up up the story and that no bear was involved in the incident.

According to an article on PostStar.com, Joel Jordon of Hague suffered head and arm injuries that required stitches and staples, but they occurred during an accident with the four-wheeler he was riding.

A spokesman for the New York Department of Environmental Protection said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. However, the agency’s law enforcement personnel determined a bear was not responsible for the man’s injuries.

It is unclear whether any false report charges will be filed.

Jordan now says he doesn’t remember exactly what happened, but that something knocked him off his vehicle.
