Officials with the Mount Washington Avalanche Center today issued a backcountry avalanche warning for the area around Tuckerman and Huntington Ravines on New Hampshire’s Mount Washington.

The center issues an avalanche warning when avalanche danger is considered high or extreme.

According to the warning, new snow on the mountain is expected to be transported by winds gusting to 100 mph to create large avalanches in many areas capable of running onto flat terrain.

An article on NHPR.org reported officials are describing the current White Mountain avalanche terrain as having “near epic proportions.”
