New York state police are still trying to piece together why a skier who went missing from Whiteface Mountain earlier this month turned up nearly a week later in California.

According to an article on TimesUnion.com, state police say they cannot corroborate a Whiteface skier’s belief he was driven across the country in a tractor-trailer after he vanished from the Adirondack ski resort.

Major John H. Tibbitts Jr., whose Troop B is leading the investigation, said none of the hauling companies contacted by investigators have a driver who admitted taking Constantino “Danny” Filippidis across the country.

Filipiddis, a captain with Toronto Fire Services, was skiing with friends when he vanished Feb. 7 from the Wilmington resort. He showed up Feb. 13 in Sacramento, California.
