A professional runner from Kenya says he was charged by two bears during a recent training run in Maine, but he says he was able to outrun them.

According to an article on SunJournal.com, the runner, Moninda Marube, says he was passing a vacant house on a nature trail when he spotted the bears roughly 20 yards away. He decided he’d have to run to save himself, and, he says, the moment he turned his back on them the bears charged him.

Marube says he ran for the vacant house, which was also roughly 20 yards away, and was able to make it in as the bears were closing in on him.
