Powerful currents and a downed tree combined to knock four kayakers into the frigid water of Rhode Island’s Pawtuxet River on Saturday.

According to an article on TurnTo10.com, Warwick firefighters rescued the kayakers after they hit the downed tree and became stranded in the river Saturday afternoon.

“Everyone was in the water, freezing cold. The tide had taken us under. It was just a really bad day,” said one of the kayakers. “I was underneath the kayak.”
