NewportRI.com: Surfing is a way of life for many on [Rhode Island’s] Aquidneck Island, which makes it hard to believe that the professional surfing circuit has never found its way here.

That will change in October, when the Water Brothers Pro 2016 will take to the swells at the Surfer’s End of Sachuest Beach.

Water Brothers owner Sid Abbruzzi, the organizer of the event, said excitement is building for the contest, which will feature 48 pro surfers from across the country. The entry fee is $100, with surfers vying for a share of the $5,000 prize pool. At the end of the day, the top surfer will take home $2,500 cash.
