Officials in western Massachusetts are advising paddlers to avoid the rain-swollen Connecticut River after they rescued a kayaker on Thursday morning.
According to an article on MassLive.com, firefighters used a rescue boat to save a kayaker who had flipped while paddling.
The paddler reportedly got caught in fishing line and flipped over, losing his paddle. He was able to grab onto a tree over an island.
Officials said it was a good thing the island was there, as they said the river is “roaring.” They described the rescue as challenging and the conditions as extreme. They say conditions on the river are currently too dangerous for paddling.
