After complaints from environmental officials and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, the company that owns old tanker cars that are being stored in the Adirondacks has announced they have begun removing the cars from the region.

According to an article on PostStar.com, Union Tank Car Co. has ordered removal of about 65 empty, cleaned tanker cars from storage in the Adirondack Forest Preserve. Removal of the cars is expected to be completed by mid-January 2018.

The tanker cars were being stored in Minerva. Company officials say they are moving the cars to areas outside New York state.
