Turns out that back in 1940, a road was proposed to the summit of New Hampshire’s ultra-popular peak, Mount Monadnock. Thankfully, the Appalachian Mountain Club and 38 towns opposed the road and were able to successfully block construction.

Today, the summit is crowded with hikers. But at least everyone of them earned it.
