New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say a hiker who had to be rescued from Mount Monadnock during a snowstorm on Saturday was unprepared for the conditions.
According to officials, Elizabeth Manning, 47, of Quincy, Massachusetts, slipped and fell while descending the mountain on Saturday afternoon. She injured her lower leg in the fall and was unable to continue down the Birchtoft Trail.
A press release from Fish and Game stated, “She and the hikers with her were not prepared for the snowy conditions and impending darkness, as they did not have enough warm clothing, flashlights or micro-spikes.”
Five Fish and Game workers, Monadnock State Park personnel and several volunteers helped Manning down the mountain. She reached the base of the mountain at 5:17 p.m. and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
