Six U.S. Army soldiers were injured in an avalanche on Vermont’s Smugglers’ Notch on Wednesday.

Five of the soldiers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to an article on WCAX.com.

The soldiers from the Army Mountain Warfare School were conducting rough terrain training in Smugglers’ Notch’s East Gully.

The avalanche reportedly swept the soldiers roughly 300 meters down the mountain. It took about 10 minutes to locate the soldiers involved in the avalanche, and two hours to get the ones needing medical attention into an ambulance.

Officials say recent storms have made many Northeast mountains prone to avalanches. On Monday, two skiers were nearly buried in an avalanche on Vermont’s Mount Mansfield.
