A new hiking trail is being built on New York’s Mount Tobias that will help connect a new interpretive center with the wilderness areas of the central Catskills.
According to Will Soter, the Catskills Assistant Program Coordinator for the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, the Tobias Wild Forest currently serves as a bridge to link the Slide Mountain Wilderness to the Indian Head and Hunter-Westkill Wilderness areas.
The new trail will connect the summit of Mount Tobias with the Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center in Mount Tremper. Ultimately, the trail will help connect the Catskill Interpretive Center to the Indian Head Wilderness and Hunter-Westkill Wilderness.
Trail construction is expected to be completed by late spring.
