The Tuckerman Inferno, considered one of the toughest adventure races in the country, is scheduled to take place this Saturday.
While classic American Inferno races, which were popular in the 1930s, are top-to-bottom ski races only, the Tuckerman Inferno includes running, hiking, kayaking, biking and skiing, creating a pentathlon event like no other.

This weekend’s race starts in New Hampshire’s Mount Washington Valley and includes an 8-mile run, a 6-mile kayak on the Saco River, an 18-mile bike ride to Pinkham Notch, a 3-mile hike up into Tuckerman Ravine on Mount Washington, and then a 1-mile ski down the ravine or surrounding trails.
The event has been held annually since 2001 and benefits the Friends of Tuckerman Ravine.
