Emergency responders were called for what turned out to be a difficult rescue in Pennsylvania’s French Creek State Park on Monday afternoon.
According to a report on WFMZ.com, hiker Shannon Gansner had a doubly difficult day. That morning, she reportedly had to put down her 12-year-old dog who was diagnosed with cancer. She was straight from the vet’s office to the park to hike.
While hiking the Mill Creek Trail, Gansner twisted her ankle on a boulder around Millers Point, one of the most challenging sections of the trail. She called 911, but because of deadfall along the trail from the winter, it took rescuers roughly two hours to reach her. Meanwhile, she endured cold conditions.
