A skier who became stranded in a ravine on New Hampshire’s Mount Washington had to be rescued Wednesday night.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials, Sean Bagdon, 20, of Colchester, Vermont, was skiing down Burt’s Ravine on the west side of Mount Washington when he encountered icy conditions and became stranded. Officials said Bagdon became worried he could fall further into the ravine.
Another skier who was with Bagdon called 911 at around 6:15 p.m.
Officials said Bagdon had no crampons, ice ax or rope, and was not prepared or able to get himself out of the situation.
Rescuers took a snowmobile along the Cog Railway to Jacob’s Ladder, then hiked another quarter-mile to reach Bagdon.
One of the rescuers hiked down to Bagdon and used a safety harness and rope to help him out of the ravine. They arrived back at the Cog tracks at roughly 10:20 p.m., and at the parking lot at roughly 11 p.m.
