More than 60 people were rescued from a ski lift at New Hampshire’s Cannon Mountain on Wednesday.
According to a statement from Cannon Mountain, a bolt affixed to the power take-off shaft failed on the Peabody Express Quad lift shortly after 10 a.m. on February 5.
Cannon Mountain Ski Patrol performed a rope evacuation of 64 passengers with the help of additional Cannon personnel.
All passengers were reportedly evacuated by 12:23 p.m.
The Peabody Express Quad remained closed for the rest of the day, and there was reduced operations for the remainder of the day, with service available at the Mittersill Double, Tuckerbrook, Eagle Cliff and Zoomer lifts.
Cannon officials said that while all chairlifts and equipment at Cannon undergo regular inspection and testing, mechanical issues can occasionally occur.
All guests at the mountain were offered the option of a refund or a credit for a future visit, in addition to complimentary hospitality at the base area.
