Fire Forces Closure of CT’s Rocky Neck State Park

A wildfire at Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme, Connecticut has forced the closure of the park until further notice.

A fire broke out on a hiking trail in the park on Saturday.

A Hot Shot team from California is assisting the Connecticut Forest Fire Service in battling the blaze, according to officials with the East Lyme Fire Service.

Connecticut State Park officials said the park’s entire extensive trail system remains closed as of Monday morning.

Located on Long Island Sound, Rocky Neck features 710 acres of beach and coastal thicket situated between a salt marsh and tidal river. The park’s varied terrain is popular among visitors. It featuers clear waters and a stone-free beach with expanses of white sand, and geologic glacial features, steep walls, and boulders attract climbers.
