Gambler Uphill Challenge to Benefit Saddleback Ski Patrol

Grab your skis and cue the Kenny Rogers tunes.

Maine’s Saddleback Mountain will host “The Gambler” — an uphill ski challenge fundraiser — on February 9 to benefit the Saddleback Ski Patrol.

The Gambler might be one of the winter’s coolest and most unique events.

Participants will use the mountain’s uphill trail, where along the route they will be dealt playing cards. All participants will get a full poker hand (five cards) in their first trip up the mountain. After the first lap, each participant can do additional laps for one extra card per lap. The more laps a person does, the better their chances for a winning poker hand.

After the final descent down the mountain, participants can hit The Pub at 3 p.m. to see if the hand they were dealt will win them one of a number of prizes available or declare them the overall winner.

The cost to enter is $50 (includes an up-hill ticket) and proceeds benefit Saddleback’s patrol team. Upon check-in of the event, guests interested in skiing lifts that day can purchase a discounted lift ticket.
